Through the regions Lazio, Tuscany and Umbria, this tour
brings you through some of the most famous wine districts in central
Italy combining wine tastings and the best regional food, with
interesting cultural visits in some of the most loved Italian
Regions.
Best period is spring summer and late autumn
Based on 10 - 15 participants.
Day 1: Travelling through the region Lazio to Tuscany
Departure from Hotel/Airport by bus with guide. The first
wine tasting will be in the northern part of Lazio by a
well known wine producer. His wine cellar is in the family house
(today transformed in a charming family hotel) situated in the
centre of a small medieval village. We are going to taste wines
combined with different dishes. In the afternoon we will reach
San Quirico D'Orcia in Tuscany for accommodation
in a 3* Country hotel. In the afternoon we will reach San Quirico
D'Orcia in Tuscany and check in for 2 nights in a 3* Country hotel.
Dinner on your own.
Day 2: Montepulciano and Montalcino
Two
famous wine producing towns in Tuscany. We start in the
morning to visit the little charming town of Pienza, built
in the 15century by the Pope Pius II, a perfect renaissance town
preserved as it was from the first beginning. Montepulciano
is situated on a hill top and around the central "piazza"
many wine producer has their "Cantina" wine cellars.
We will visit a wine cellar and taste the famous "Vino Nobile
di Montepulciano". Lunch on your own. In the afternoon we
are going to visit Montalcino famous all over the world
for the excellent Brunello da Montalcino. Wine tasting. Back to
the Hotel Dinner.
Day 3: Bagno Vignoni - San Gimignano - Siena
Today
we leave our hotel to go to Siena but before leaving this area
we will visit Bagno Vignoni a little delicious place where
the central " Piazza" is a warm mineral water pool surrounded
by houses built in the 15th century. Than we travel through the
beautiful landscape of Tuscany to reach San Gimignano a
well preserved medieval town. From far away you can notice high
towers above the city walls, there are 15 remeining from the 72
once standing. We will make a city walk in the middle of antique
noble houses, narrow lanes and squares. "Vernaccia"
is the wine produced here and we will have lunch and wine tasting
in a farm outside town. After lunch we drive to Siena accommodation
for 2 nights in.
Day 4: Siena and Chianti district
We
start the day with a guided tour in Siena with a local
guide, seeing the famous piazza "Il Campo" and the Dome.
Later our bus is waiting to make a tour in the Chianti district
to see valleys and small villages, castle's on hilltops, olive
groves and wine yards all set in a hilly landscape typical for
this area.
We make a stop in a typical village and in a wine castle to taste
some excellent Chianti wines. We taste wine in two farms and have
a light lunch. Dinner on your own in Siena.
Day 5: Torgiano - Spello
Today
we are going to Umbria to visit Torgiano a small village
where the family Lungarotti produce famous wine's. Here Maria
Grazia Lungarotti has created a stupendous wine and olive oil
museum that we are going to visit. Wine tasting with 3 of Lungarotti's
wines some bread and cheese will be arranged in the wine shop
nearby the museum. In the magnificent valley of Umbria the old
towns are dotted on the nearby hills, in the most famous Assisi
the birth town of Saint Francesco we make our next stop. Then
we stay for two nights nearby the town of Spello.
Dinner in the hotel.
Day 6: Spoleto - Montefalco
We
start our day with a visit to Spoleto, a splendid town,
characteristic corners and historical suggestions; a place where
one can understand the importance of the relation between man
and nature, and between history and landscape. We make a guided
tour by foot in the city centre, and then we make a tasting of
olive oil in a farm situated near the famous wells of Clitunno.
The charming little town of Montefalco is famous for the
excellent wine Sagrantino di Montefalco that is produced on the
hills around the village. Montefalco, due to the position on a
hill is called ,"the terrace of Umbria" from here there
is a magnificent view over a big part of the Umbian valley.
Day 7: Departure
End of the tour transfer back to Rome.
