On
the south-eastern end of the Italian peninsula lies the region
Apulia. Here the antique local culture mixed up with both the
Greek and the Roman. Rome's connecting link to the east - Via
Appia - was built to end in the coastal city of Brindisi.
Today Apulia has the Italian antique charm left, people leave
here as they have always been doing and the mass tourism has not
yet come to this region. The landscape inspire beauty and peace
and now and than you'll see those particular round houses called
"Trulli"
In this region both olive and almond trees grows fine and the
wine produced is tasty and strong, as well as it offers the visitors
a good cuisine based on fresh vegetables available combined with
all that the see offers.
Day
1: Brindisi Lecce
Upon arrival to airport private coach and tour leader will
meet the group and bring us to Lecce where we will stay in 4*
hotel for 3 nights.
We will eat the first meal at the hotels restaurant.
Day
2: Lecce, Lecce is famous for the baroque architecture produced
with the local yellow stone which very easy shape, together with
many palaces and churches from this époque there is also
rests from a Roman amphitheatre. We make a sightseeing with local
guide and after a lunch together we have time on our own.
Day
3: Gallipoli, we drive to the charming little town of Gallipoli,
built on an island of limestone connected with the mainland by
a bridge. The main attractions are the Cathedral that contains
a wide collection of art, and the Greek fountain. We eat a country
lunch together, before returning to Lecce.
Day
4: Ostuni - Alberobello, Today we leave our hotel in Lecce
to continue our stay in Alberobello. On the we make a stop in
the charming town of Ostuni, located on a hill topped by
antique part of town. The structure of the town was formed in
the middle age and was built on top of the ruins of an ancient
Greek town.
It has an egg shape very characteristic with narrow step formed
streets, arches, outside stairs and white painted houses.
Time on your own before we move on to our hotel in Alberobello
for a dinner together .
Day
5: Castel del Monte - Trani, Castel del Monte is one of Apulias
most beautiful profane buildings and one of the most impressive
fortresses of the middle age, with it's eight towers built in
a perfect circle. It was constructed during 1240 and lays with
an incredible view of the sorrounding landscape.
We have lunch together at a farm before we drive towards the sea
and Trani, where we find the cathedrals S. Nicola Pellegrino,
one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches of south Italy.
Once back to the hotel we have time on our own
Day
6: Locorotondo - farewell dinner, today we visit Le Murge
- a plateau that extends along the upper part of the region, here
we'll see the typical houses built with Trulli technique often
round and with pointed roof. We start with a visit in Locorotondo,
e picturesque little town that takes the name from it's shape,
infact it's built on a hill in a circle in the heart of Le Murge.
Next stop is in Alberobello there are about a 1.000 Trulli
houses, shops, bars and restaurants, we visit the historical centres
"Monti" and "Aia Piccola".
Dinner at a Castle surrounded by the green olive trees, we will
try the antique traditional dishes of this region.
Day
7: Departure.
Departure transfer from the hotel to Bari airport.
