Lazio Tour
this tour let you discover many parts of this region, you'll enjoy
typical foods, oil, wine, beautiful nature by the lakes and some
culture in Rome the eternal city.
Day 1: Arrival
Arrival
to Rome airport, bus an tour leader meet the group to make a panoramic
tour where we pass Basilica di S. Paolo, Terme di Caracalla and
Colosseum ending at the hotel.
Dinner in nearby restaurant a family runs the place and you eat
the typical dishes of Rome. Overnight in Rome.
Day 2: Full day sightseeing in Rome.
Full
day sightsseing with antique Rome, centre with Spanish Steps,
Fontana di Trevi, Pantheon and Piazza Navona, the bus brings
to the area of S.Pietro where we have lunch. After lunch visit
of the basilica and eventually of the Vatican Museums. Overnight
in Rome
Day 3: Excursion to Castelli Romani
The
volcanic hills south of Rome, is only 20 km outside of the city
and therefore connected with it's story. The very fine volcanic
soil the nearness to the sea make this area perfect for wine production,
and the lakes and the forests make this hills loved by the Romans
and visitors from all over the world. Medieval towns with a history
that dates back to the roman empire are scattered all over and
are surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and chestnut forests.
During the tour in this area we are going to visit Castel Gandolfo,
the summer residence of the Popes since the 16th century, situated
on the top of the Albano lake, Frascati famous for magnificent
villas built by roman noble families during 16 - 17 century and
Genzano famous for the production of bread that is delivered all
over the region, we are going to make a visit at a bakery where
they do the bread in ovens heated by wood fire.
We stop for lunch combined with wine tasting in the hills at one
of the famous wine producers, before going back to Rome. Overnight

Day 4: Ninfa garden - Mozzarella - Villa D'Este
Early
morning we leave Rome driving south in the same direction of Via
Appia Antica the antique Roman road that was built by the consul
Appius Claudius, the road was built over the drained plain in
the southern part of Lazio in 300 before Christ. This huge plain
is today cultivated with vegetables, fruits and farms with buffaloes
producing milk for the famous "Mozzarella di Bufala".
We stop outside the city of Latina to make a visit to the gardens
of Ninfa The romantic flower-covered ruins at Ninfa, are
as close to gardening perfection as you can get. Scented roses,
hydrangeas and jasmines are among the many plants which curtain
what remains of the walls of medieval houses and churches and
entwine soaring cypresses which line what were once streets. Paths
now meander beside a crystal-clear river through Ninfa's tranquil
setting. The gardens here are laid out in the ruins of the village
of Ninfa, named after a mythical nymph whose tears shed for a
lost lover are said to have become the cool stream which runs
through the centre of the garden.
After this fascinating visit we have our lunch together in a nice
restaurant not far from Ninfa. After lunch we drive to Bagni di
Tivoli the thermal baths of the famous town of Tivoli, after check
in at our hotel we have time on our own.
After
breakfast we take a few steps to the train station and travel
about 20 minutes to reach the city of Tivoli where e visit Villa
d'Este, masterpiece of the Italian Garden, is included inthe
UNESCO world heritage list. With its impressive concentration
of fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and music, it
constitutes a much-copied model for European gardens in the mannerist
and baroque styles. We end our visit with a lunch in the historical
centre of the city, time on your own to explore other parts of
the city or make some shopping return on your own to the hotel
by train.

Day 5: Eutruscan Cerveteri - Bracciano Lake
Lazio
was a part of Etruria where the Etruscan civilisation developed
and disappeared between 770 - 100 before Kr. The town Cere (Cerveteri)
was, as all Etruscan towns surrounded by large necropolis, because
the Etruscan civilisation considered the life after death most
important.
The huge family tombs was excavated directly in the volcanic tuff
stone and all utensils used during the daily life person in the
life after dead.
Our day start at Cerveteri with a visit in the Banditaccia
necropolis and then we are going to visit the small Etruscan museum
situated in the centre of Cerveteri.
The roads that cross the area between the sea and the Bracciano
Lake are all excavated in the tuff stone by the Etruscans, the
nature are excellent for beef and sheep, brooding.
Suddenly,
as a mirage, we arrive to the Braccaino lake that was called
by the Roman "Sabatinus Lacus". The lake of Bracciano
is filled by underground rivers, some of them coming from the
close lake of Martignano. Bracciano's lake has an effluent named
Arrone which flows into the Tyrrhenian Sea near Fregene. It has
an area of 57 square Kilometres with a perimeter of 33 Kilometres.
For its measurements it is the second largest lake of Lazio and
it's ranked eighth place among Italian lakes. The beauty of nature
and landscape, the historical and cultural heritage with its archaeological
and artistic richness: these are the ingredients having made Lake
Bracciano a desired destination appreciated by visitors from all
part of Italy and the world.
Three
towns have been built on the lake's shores: Bracciano,
Trevignano Romano and Anguillara Sabazia. A sluice
constructed by the end of the 1700's is still working perfectly
after having undergone restorations, to maintain water at a constant
level. It feeds the Acquedotto Paulo, constructed at the time
of Pope Paul V in the beginning of the 1600's in order to supply
the Vatican with fresh water.
Upon arrival to the lake we lunch at the lake shore and then we
make a tour around the lake stopping in one or two of the small
towns Trevignano and Anguillara before going back to Bagni di
Tivoli.
Day 6: Sabina - olive oil - Farfa
The
Sabina hills are located north east of Rome, the area is
shaped by hills and valleys and many picturesque towns with well
preserved middle age centres. The whole area is a man made landscape
where century old olive trees and small vineyards grow along the
sloping grounds. The olive oil produced in this area is exported
to many countries.
We are going to make a fantastic visit at a small olive oil museum
where international and national artists has created a unique
atmosphere, we will follow the olive trees in the art and the
music and leading thread through the museum is the oil drop.
After the museum we stop at a farm owned by a family that produces
one of the best oils of the area, we eat a vegetarian lunch with
products from this area and taste the newly made
oil on toasted bread, there is time to buy some oil and wonderful
hand made soaps to bring home.
In the afternoon we stop for a visit at the Abbazia di Farfa
that was one of the most imposing monasteries in central Italy,
in the past many of the European royal families did send their
young men here to get the times best education. The convent has
a library, cloister garden and a beautiful church that we
will visit. In the small village there are houses from the middle
age and there are some small handicraft shops that it is possible
to visit.
We will have our farewell dinner in a restaurant in Tivoli, before
the bus brings us back to the hotel.
Day 7: Departure
Time on your own for last shopping before we leave for the
airport of Fiumicino.
