The Romantic piano
Festival 8 April – 19 May 2010
The Romantic piano in France began its adventure following the development of the “modern” piano and the ensuing virtuosity that blossomed amongst pianists. During the Empire period, both Pleyel and Érard strove with all their ingenuity to give the instrument more subtlety and a fuller, richer sound. At the same time, the emergence of the “star system”, in the modern sense of the
term, set the virtuoso apart from other performers.
He came to embody a new Romantic hero, a man at
one with his music, showing great commitment to
the world, yet sometimes isolated from that world,
living in solitude and melancholy.

L'Età di Courbet e Monet
Realismo and impressionism in Europe
Passariano (Udine), 26th September 2009 - 7th March 2010 The wealth of masterpieces offered in this exhibition examines and reveals a very special aspect of 19th century European pictorial culture: the relation between the birth of the so-called Barbizon school in France and the diffusion of Realism and Naturalism in Central and Eastern European countries. The exhibition consists of 134 paintings from museums worldwide, staged in Villa Manin – a spectacular Dogal residence in the heart of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Masterpieces from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston
Rimini, 10th October 2009 - 14th March 2010 65 masterpieces of European painting – dating from the sixteenth to the twentieth century – from one of the world’s most important museums, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. An occasion that will never be repeated, as it is the result of the American institute’s temporary closure of a portion of its exhibition space for renovations. As a consequence, over the next few months, Rimini will act as the representative for Boston and its extraordinary museum not only in Italy but in all of Europe.

Festival “Le salon romantique” 17 – 27 February 2010 The creation of the Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française is the result of its fortunate coincidence with the objectives that have always been those of the Bru Foundation: Education, Research, the restoration of our Cultural Heritage.
In February 2010 the Palazzetto turns to Le salon romantique, which represents its policy of supporting promising young artists, who will be performing selected pieces from the chamber repertoire. Presenting the French Romantic repertoire and contributing to its understanding and appreciation are central to the activities of the Palazzetto Bru Zane. Opening its doors to talented young interpreters is no doubt the most committed way of encouraging them to approach and study this music and play it as often as possible.
