THE DYING CITY
This town offers you one of the most breathtaking views in Italy! For 2500 years ago the Etruscans first built this small town in a strategic position 130 km north of Rome on the top of a tuff cliff. During the centuries the erosion in this area has created the particular form of the “calanchi” (the mountains around the town) and has nearly transformed the town in a sort of island. In 1965 they had to build a footbridge to make it possible to access the town. The erosion risks to slowly destroy the city and that’s why it’s called the dying city.
