Beautiful Tuscany on a steam train

It’s truly an experience to climb into one of the old so-called “Centoporte” (wagons with a hundred doors) pulled by an authentic steam locomotive, these “smoldering giants” that our ancestors traveled with and with the familiar sound of the whistle, puffing and screeching in the background. The routes are many and go beyond the beaten track on disused rail lines through the beautiful countryside south of Siena. It’s possible to hike from the small stations to reach ancient rural churches, tiny medieval villages and castles, stopping at a farm for tasting and experiencing one of the many traditional local feasts, often with a gastronomic theme. The tours last one day and start from Siena. They are all scheduled on days when there are some nice local event near where the train goes past, such as a local feast. Where necessary, there will be a shuttle bus between the station and the place for the event.
